Highlights from 1st MCTA Meeting in Tanners Store

MCTA members and guests met Thursday night in the newly painted "Legacy Room" at the Tanners Store. Currently, volunteers are restoring vault appearance, afterwards ceiling trim, floor repair and new vinyl flooring. (Click here for photos and progress report)


TRUNK & TREAT—October 31

SquareCROW awards will occur at Trunk ‘n Treat on October 31.

We will coordinate with Courtney (Mayor’s office) to reserve a spot in front of Tanners Store for MCTA participation.

JULIE GRAHAM, METTC, reported application has been submitted for County (Rugby) for a Scenic Byway inclusion.

CASA DINNER—October 7

TANNER TAKE-OUT- October 1. Menu: Chicken ‘n Dressing Casserole, slaw, roll, cookies. First two Tanners Takeout lunches had 140 and 150 orders with good response from community.

MOCO BREWING EVENTS FOR MCTA PARTICIPATION

September 26—Shrimp Boil food truck for 1st UT home football game. If they deplete their food supply, MCTA may want to sell hotdogs or have hot dogs available for those who don’t like shrimp.


OCTOBER 24—OKTOBERFEST NITE COURT evening event with MCTA being the only food vendor (hamburgers, Brats)

TENNESSEE TOURISM CARES MARKETING PROGRAM/GRANT--$25,000—Federal Money


Mark Keck, MCTA Chairman presented a slideshow on the CARES Marketing Program/Grant. Because MCTA is the official Tourism entity in MoCo, we are eligible for this grant as the DMO (Destination Marketing Organization). Money must be spent and then reimbursed if it meets grant requirements. Members will be working on this grant.


HIKE MOCO—George reports that Erin and Cathy are planning Fall Frenzy hikes and they are encouraging joining Laz’ Hike Across the Globe.



BARKLEY FALL CLASSIC will be held on September 19 with reduced number of participants (150). MCTA asked for packets for runners. Members will stuff packets September 17, 10 am.


ARC GRANT MONIES FOR THE CUMBERLAND TRAIL

Money is available, land swaps for the proposed route are being completed, and work will begin in cooler weather when the snakes are hibernating.

SQUARECROW CONTEST: George:

Sign-up until Sept 30

$20 individuals and NP, $40 businesses, churches, etc

George will talk with Bridget, COC, to help with business “buy in” for participation.
