The Morgan County Tourism Alliance members and the Rugby Community were hosts to the Second Rugby Roundabout Bicycle Event on Saturday October 12, 2024. Rescheduled due to the hurricane, a beautiful weather day welcomed the Ninety-Three riders local and from across the State of Tennessee who pedaled the back country roads of our county.
Five States were represented saying this ride was the best. The route for the riders gave them options as to the distance they chose to ride. From 10 miles to 70. Beginning at the Visitor Center in Rugby the route took them along the Brewstertown Town road, Burrville Subright, Glades, Meister Hills, Twin Bridges, Deer Lodge, 62. Deer Lodge Sunbright, Rome road, Hugh Jones, Coon Hollow, and back to Glades and the finish line at R M Brooks Store. As part of the registration fee the cyclists were given t-shirts, lunch at R M Brooks Store and beer from MoCo Brewery.
David Howard and Jim Radle delighted the riders with their varied song selection while they rested and enjoyed their lunch. Our thanks to those who were Rest Stop hosts from The Morgan County Tourism Alliance and The Lonnie Cook family, Wiedeman Hotel personnel, Union Grove Baptist Church and Wright Farms for the use of their facilities. Especially we want to recognize and thank the members who provided safety for the riders. The Sheriff's Department who many volunteered on their day off, and the Clear Fork Area Fire Department who provided safety for the riders are to be commended for their service and leadership. They represented the county and community well. All the riders stated it was the safest ride in which they have rode. To the State and Morgan County Road Departments, thank you for the care you gave in making sure the roads and signage were in place.
To Martin Coleman of Race Day Events our thanks for his leadership in organizing the event. To all our sponsors, Brad Daugherty Construction, Creative Structures our sincere appreciation. Rugby Printers Guild did excellent work in printing the T-shirts and Simply Unique Signage was outstanding.
The Morgan County Tourism Alliance is privileged to serve our county in highlighting its attributes and introducing activities into the area which will bring income into the business entities. We of Morgan County have much in which to be proud. To all the riders, thank you for coming and looking forward to 2025.
